People's
Deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the state power bodies, local self-government,
participants of the social dialogue, heads of the enterprises and
representatives of work collectives attended the discussion.
Committee Chairman Vasyl Khara opened the meeting, and stated that situation in the mining and smelting sector was being discussed in connection with the protests of the trade union and decline in the production capabilities of enterprises preceded by dismissals.
Participants of the round table discussion emphasized that in 2008-2009 mining and smelting enterprises had experienced the crisis due to the increase of tariffs for energy products for industrial consumers, railway transportation, money laundering via non-repayment of VAT, etc.
Speakers stressed that the situation had not improved even during the last year and a half. Economic efficiency of the mining and smelting enterprises has only started to recover during 2010, however, there are new factors which actually stop operations of the enterprises.
Among the primary problems to be tackled, the specialists singled out the following: regulation of the tariffs on electricity; allocation of the land plots for extraction of natural resources to meet the needs of the mining and smelting enterprises; incomplete administrative reform in the result of which the Ministry on Industrial Policy of Ukraine has not been liquidated yet, and its functions have not been delegated to another Ministry r.
Participants of the round table discussion adopted and finalized the expressed proposals, having sent them to the Committee of Social Policy and Labour.
